DIESEL MECHANIC

Location: Springfield, IL (with some travel required)


Employment Type: Full-Time


Job Summary:  We are seeking a skilled and reliable Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team in Springfield, IL. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered heavy equipment and vehicles used in our timber operations, including dozers, skidders, skid steers, and similar machinery. This role requires hands-on expertise with forestry and construction equipment, a strong attention to detail, and the flexibility for occasional travel to support our sites in Beardstown, Jacksonville, and Jefferson County. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel engines and heavy equipment such as dozers, skidders, skid steers, loaders, trucks, and related systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair brakes, transmissions, fuel systems, and other components.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and service history.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to prioritize repairs and support fieldwork as needed.
  • Travel occasionally to remote sites for on-site repairs or emergencies (travel expenses covered).
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and company policies.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in diesel technology preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in heavy equipment maintenance for forestry, construction, or agricultural settings.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and welding/fabrication.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with flexibility for overtime and travel.
  • Physical stamina to lift heavy parts (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions.
  • Commitment to safety and a proactive problem-solving mindset.

CDL Driver (Contract)

Description: Transport logs and equipment across Illinois on project-based contracts using trucks with advanced trailers.

Flexible schedules for independent contractors.


Requirements: Valid CDL (Class A), 2+ years experience, clean driving record, knowledge of logging routes.


Compensation: $25–$35/hour or $500–$1,000/project.

Faller (Contract)

Description: Fell trees safely using chainsaws, focusing on walnut and white oak. Project-based contracts with flexible

timelines.



Requirements: 3+ years experience, chainsaw certification, sustainable harvesting knowledge.



Compensation:  $300 day rate (lodging included)

Operator (Contract)

Description: Operate winches, cranes, or other equipment for logging projects. Short-term or recurring contracts.


Requirements: 2+ years heavy machinery experience, mechanical aptitude, safety certification.


Compensation: $22–$32/hour or $450–$900/project.

Ground Crew (Contract)

Description: Support logging operations by clearing debris, handling logs, and maintaining worksites. Ideal for entrylevel contractors.


Requirements: 1+ year outdoor labor experience, physical fitness, teamwork skills.


Compensation: $15–$25/hour or $300–$600/project.
